Chemical sensors, often called chemosensors, are a kind of molecules capable to selectively bind and signal the presence of other chemical species in solution. Among the chemosensors developed so far, fluorescent ones are attracting considerable attention, providing the great sensitivity that Fluorescence Spectroscopy offers. Additionally, many fluorescent probes are currently used for biological applications, namely for the microscopic imaging of live cells and tissues, which has potential implications for the diagnostics of diseases.
