MAOPS : Microwave Assisted Organic and Peptide Synthesis

par Jocelyne Gauthier - publié le , mis à jour le

Les 04 et 05 Juin 2009

Microwave activation has emerged as a powerful technique in organic synthesis to accelerate the preparation of molecules. Many examples have demonstrated that this technique can be adapted to most organic transformations. Reactions are generally faster, consequently cleaner and sometimes more selective. Furthermore, the focused heating generated by the microwave enables high temperature to be reached in a short time. Even if they have not been extended yet to the production level, the dielectric heating has been successfully applied for small-scale use in many different fields from biotechnology to plastics industry.

Microwave-assisted chemistry has greatly expanded in recent years with the arrival of specifically adapted equipment such as high-capacity microwave apparatus to scale-up the synthesis from milligrams to kilograms, without the need to alter reaction parameters.

A large range of organic reactions have been successfully conducted : Diels-Alder or Huisgen cycloadditions reactions, Heck, Suzuki, Mannich couplings, Hydrolysis or Dehydratation, Esterification, Reductions, Condensations, Protections and Deprotections, Cyclization reactions etc. A significant number of reactions were also performed on solid support. More recently, several groups have reported the synthesis of difficult peptide sequences using this technique showing better results in term of yields and purities.

The 1st International Symposium on MAOPS (Microwave-Assisted Organic and Peptide Synthesis) represents an exciting congress devoted to the presentation and discussions of the actual status, future trends and applications in the field of microwave-assisted chemical synthesis.
Plenary speakers from academia and industry supported by oral and poster sessions will address the latest advances in the field.

Special emphasis will be placed on the application on microwave technology in the field of :

  • Green Chemistry
  • Solvent-free reactions
  • Solid Phase Chemistry
  • Automated Peptide Synthesis
  • Multi-step microwave and High throughput synthesis
  • Click chemistry
  • Heterocyclic chemistry
  • Coupling reactions
  • Carbohydrates and Glycoconjugates
  • Modification of proteins
  • Conjugation of different biomolecules
