A biomaterial inspired by collagen

by corneille - published on

The work of the teams Aminoacids and Peptides of IBMM and Chimie Moléculaire et Organisation du Solide of ICGM has just been accepted in Materials Today.

This publication presents the design, the synthesis and the biological evaluation of a new type of biomimetic material, inspired by collagen peptide sequences. The main innovation is the ’bottom-up’ and modular approach involving synthetic peptides modified with silanes. Such hybrid building blocks are polymerized under conditions compatible with the encapsulation of cells. The composition of the hydrogel can be modified on demand. This work aims at the encapsulation of stem cells for tissue regeneration and associates a team from IRMB (Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapy, Montpellier) and the Biopolymers team of IBMM.
