An extruder for greener peptide synthesis
The IBMM Green Chemistry and Innovative Technologies team is dedicated to the development of sustainable chemistry by using, for example, solvent-free peptide synthesis approaches.
Recently the use of an extruder, that can apply elevated mechanical forces to a reaction mixture, has enabled the researchers to produce small peptides without using any of the harmful solvents that are of common use in classical solvent-based techniques.
In addition, this original process can operate continuously and has been found to be up to 100 times more productive than conventional methods in solution.
