Biography
Dr Léa Guerassimoff joined the CNRS in November 2026 as a permanent researcher (CRCN) at the Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBMM) within the Polymers for Health and Biomaterials (PHBM) department. Following her chemical engineering degree from Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris (Chimie ParisTech), she pursued a PhD at Paris-Saclay University under the supervision of Dr Julien Nicolas. Her doctoral research focused on the development of pH- and temperature- responsive polymer prodrugs, aiming to establish new strategies for the delivery of irritant chemotherapeutic agents: through combination therapy and subcutaneous (SC) administration. From 2024 to 2026, she joined Pr. Stefaan de Smedt’s group at Ghent University (Belgium) as a postdoctoral researcher where she specialized in the formulation, characterization and evaluation of advanced ocular drug delivery systems. She investigated the use of innovative external stimuli, including ultrasound and light, to precisely control the transport of lipid and polymeric nanoparticles through the vitreous humor of the eye. This work aimed to improve nanoparticle distribution and therapeutic potential following intravitreal administration. Her current research focuses on the design of smart drug delivery systems enabling precise spatiotemporal control of drug release, including ultrasound-responsive hydrogels, for the treatment of gynaecological conditions, with a particular interest in endometriosis.
