Biography
After getting his diploma from the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris (ENSCP) in 2004, Xavier obtained a Master’s degree and then a PhD at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC – Paris VI) in Prof. Giovanni Poli’s research group. There, he worked on palladium-catalyzed enantio- and diastereoselective allylic alkylations for the synthesis of lactams. During his doctorate, he went for 2 months in the group of Prof. Paul S. Pregosin at ETH Zürich (Collaboration COST-D40) to isolate some π-allyl palladium complexes. After getting his PhD diploma in 2008, he took a post-doctoral position in the group of Prof. Steven P. Nolan, 3 months at the ICIQ in Tarragona (Spain) and then 19 months at St Andrews University (UK), working on the synthesis of new catalysts for olefin metathesis (European funding, FP7 program). He then came back to France for a 1-year post-doctoral position in Dr. Philippe Belmont’s research team at Institut Curie (Paris) where he was dealing with silver-catalyzed synthesis of quinoline derivatives. In September 2011, he obtained an assistant professor position in Dr. Frédéric Lamaty’s group in Montpellier. In 2017, he obtained his ‘habilitation à diriger les recherches’ (HDR). In parallel to his teaching at IUT of Montpellier-Sète, Dr Xavier Bantreil is now working on catalysis, mechanochemistry and flow chemistry in a view to develop sustainable chemistry. In 2021, he was nominated as Junior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF), and as Junior Distinguished member of the French Chemical Society. Since september 2024, he is Full Professor at the University of Montpellier.
