Biography

Souvik Panda Mahapatra was born in West Bengal, India. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur (University of Calcutta), followed by an integrated MS–PhD from IISER Pune under the supervision of Prof. Hosahudya N. Gopi. His doctoral research (2019-2024) focused on solid- and solution-phase peptide synthesis, foldamers from non-natural amino acids, and cyclic peptides and peptide nucleic acids with applications in biomaterials, molecular recognition, and bioelectronics.

He then joined Prof. Ivan V. Korendovych’s group (2024-2025) at Baylor University, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow, where he worked on peptide catalysis and amyloid self-assembly.

Currently, he is pursuing his second Post-doctoral journey in the "MecAPeps” project at University of Montpellier under the supervision of three different IBMM teams: Glycochemistry & molecular recognition (Sébastien Ulrich), Green Chemistry & Innovative Technologies (Frédéric Lamaty), Analytical Sciences of Biomolecules (Claudia Muracciole Bich). He will study peptide based dynamic combinatorial libraries, activated upon mechano-activation (ball-milling) to access biomimetic self-assemblies.
