Internship 6 months: Development of Analytical Methods for Protein and Peptide Analysis using Capillary Electrophoresis

Analytical Sciences of Biomolecules Team

Project Description:

The project aims to describe the structure of proteins in artificial or biological environments. To characterize the conformation of these proteins in crowded environments, capillary electrophoresis (CE) coupled with UV detection is used but requires various optimizations such as the nature of the separation buffer, its ionic strength, or its pH. In a second phase, the developed methods will be applied to CE devices coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) for more precise identification and characterization. The recruited person will benefit from the analytical equipment (CE, UPLC, mass spectrometry) available within the F12 Analytical Sciences team of the institute and the common analysis platform of the Balard Chemistry Center.

Intern’s Missions:

After training in CE-UV technique manipulation, the recruited person will be tasked with optimizing the separation conditions of model peptides and then the proteins under study. Subsequently, the intern will be trained in the use of CE-MS instruments available on the institute’s platform. The intern will also need to ensure proper storage and preparation of samples after incubation in crowded environments.

Desired Profile:

Solid knowledge of separative techniques (chromatography, electrophoresis…), as well as in the conservation and handling of biological material such as peptides and proteins. Particular interest in the development of analytical methodologies. Team spirit, rigor, scientific curiosity.
