Revelation of an Unexpected Contaminant by the SLB-IBMM Team!

The oxylipins synthesized by the SLB-IBMM team are recognized biomarkers and bioactive lipids. Recently, we congratulated Jean-Marie Galano for his research on the molecular network and annotation of oxylipins (Elloumi et al. Sci Data 2024). Who would have thought that, on one hand, the molecular network, and on the other hand, an oxylipin discovered in the 1980s, could be a contaminant of well-known contaminants like PFAS! Again, Jean-Marie Galano and Angel Illana-Sanchez, contacted by Yuyan Ji (PhD student) from Professor Yitao Pan’s team at Shanghai University, have just highlighted this molecular network and discovered an oxylipin derived from DHA with a trioxyline structure (Ji et al. Environ Sci Tech Lett 2025, in press).
