Biography

Marie Celeste De Jesus Ferreira obtained her PhD degree (1998) from the University of Paris VI, France, under the supervision of Dr. Claire Bailly. She worked on the characterization of transduction mechanisms involved in inhibition of mouse thick ascending limb’s transport function: role of endothelin and extracellular calcium. Then, she had a postdoctoral position in the group of Stefan Hohmann at the department of Cell and Molecular Biology/Microbiology, at the University of Göteborg, in Sweden. She worked on revealing, by transposon mutagenesis, novel loci affecting tolerance of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to salt stress and growth at low temperature. In 2005, she obtained a permanent position at the University of Montpellier as an assistant professor in Physiology/Neuroscience. She joined the team « Pharmacochimie de la transmission synaptique et neuroprotection » directed by Pr. Michel Vignes and Pierre Charnet at the « Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron » (IBMM, Montpellier, France). Her research is mainly focused on studying the effect of oxidative stress on synaptic transmission in mammals and trying to propose solutions to prevent it.
