Biography

Graduated from the Chemistry–Biology Master’s program at the University of Grenoble 1, Mathieu then completed his Ph.D. in molecular chemistry at the University of Rennes 1, where he developed self-assembling antimicrobial peptides and pseudopeptides. He subsequently carried out a first postdoctoral fellowship at Paris 6 (Université Pierre & Marie Curie), studying the interactions of nanoparticles (iron oxide and silica) with biological membranes and cells. He then completed a second postdoctoral position at the CEA Saclay, working on the radiolabeling of peptides capable of crossing the blood–brain barrier. Building on this contract, he went on to obtain a permanent research position (CDI) in the Marseille-based start-up Vect-Horus, which develops bioconjugates coupling these brain-targeting vector peptides with various therapeutic molecules.
He then completed training at Bpifrance in Paris (DeeptechFounders) to assess the possibility of creating a start-up based on one of his CNRS thesis patents. After that, he spent four years at the industrial demonstrator Toulouse White Biotechnology, where he contributed to the Bioimpulse project in collaboration with Michelin and developed a patent on microscopic DNA-based molecular tags.
Finally, he joined IBMM in April 2025 to develop therapeutic nanoparticles for the treatment of rare lysosomal genetic diseases, as well as antitumor nanoparticles, within the F16 team.
