Strategies in chiral molecular materials precursors

The introduction of chirality into radical cation salts or mixed valence compounds based on tetrathiafulvalenes (TTF) has been recently received a growing interest within the frame of the multifunctional molecular materials and the synergy which could exist between chirality and conductivity through the so-called electrical magneto-chiral anisotropy effect. Besides, chirality can also influence on the structural disorder of crystalline TTF based materials, and hence on their transport properties, such as we recently demonstrated within a complete series of (±), (R) and (S) molecular conductors based on chiral TTF-Oxazolines (TTF-OX). [1] Starting from these results, several new strategies to address the chiral information have been imagined, such as the synthesis of unprecedented BEDT-TTF chiral sulfoxides. [2]

We will discuss in this lecture the different chiral strategies.
